Cleveland Launcher Steel (2006). The new and improved Launcher steel fairway woods feature a lower profile head which makes it easier to get the ball airborne. Thin Crown Technology was also incorporated, taking 15% more weight out of the top of the clubhead and moving it to areas of greater benefit. The Carpenter Custom 455 steel face plate is robotically welded to increase the size of the sweet spot and makes the face hotter and more forgiving on off-center hits. As a comparison against earlier Launcher Fairways, Launcher Comp Fairway: The Comp Fairway produces the highest launch angle and most boring flight of the 3 fairways. This results in unmatched carry distance and roll. The first generation (2005) Launcher Fairways launch high with great carry, but a higher spin rate makes its peak ball flight slightly higher than optimal. This new Launcher Steel version launches the ball higher than the first generation and produces less backspin than the original for a piercing ballflight that results in added carry. Cleveland say: "The Launcher Comp Fairway may be the longest fairway in golf, but the new Launcher '06 Steel Fairway is right on its heels."
