The SIM2 driver family
There are three models in the SIM 2 driver family, with the main difference between them being the steel weight anchored at the back of the Inertia Generator.
In the standard model, this weight is 16-grams; in the MAX it is 24-grams to help launch and increase forgiveness; in the MAX D it is 24-grams too, but the Inertia Generator angels towards the heel for a more impactful draw bias.
Although this weight does have the little socket that fits your adjustment wrench, we recommend that you never adjust this weight (outside possibly a custom fitting setting with a TaylorMade club builder).
TaylorMade engineers have optimised the weight perfectly for the driver, and it's part of the appeal of the SIM2 that for all the technology, all you need to adjust is the loft and lie in the hosel.
Picking the right model

Although you can affect the shot shape using the hosel, the draw bias is primarily governed by the weighting on the end of the Inertia Generator. In the standard and MAX models, the weight is relatively central, but in the MAX D (for draw), the Inertia Generator is angled towards the heel and, with a heavier weight (24-grams), produces a more dramatic draw bias.
You should consider the model you're buying if you're after more significant changes to your ball flight.
Let's get adjusting!
With a simple adjustment wrench, you can raise and lower the club's loft, give your driver a draw or fade bias, and alter the trajectory and spin rate.
Let's look at the opening and locking mechanisms of the screws. To open or loosen any screw in your driver, place the wrench into the top of the screw and turn anti-clockwise. To tighten a screw, you turn it clockwise, and when fully tightened, there will be an audible "CLICK" to let you know the sleeve is safely locked in place and avoid over-tightening.
What are the options?
When fully opened, the driver head can be easily removed from the shaft revealing a series of numbers and settings on the tip of the shaft. These markings indicate the different loft, lie and face angle options you can choose.
TaylorMade uses a four-degree tip adapter, and at the time of manufacture and assembly, the shaft will be set to standard loft, indicated by STD on the adapter.
There are 12 different notches or movements on the sleeve, and each one increases or decreases loft by a half or three-quarters of a degree.
Want to lower the loft?
Rotating the shaft to the LOWER position reduces the loft of the driver by 2-degrees. The face will also be 4-degrees more open than standard at this setting, and the lie angle is 58-degrees. These changes are going to result in a fade bias on any shots.
And how about increasing loft?
Rotating the shaft to the HIGHER position will have the opposite effect, increasing the loft by 2-degrees. These adjustments will shut the face 4-degrees, raise the lie angle to 58-degrees, and put a draw bias on your drives.
Note too that you don't have to adjust to the LOWER or HIGHER settings. You can adjust incrementally along the notches in between to make the changes more subtly.
If you spin the shaft 180-degrees, you'll notice the UPRT marking. Securing the shaft in this position keeps the loft as standard, but now the club sits 4-degrees more upright at 60-degrees. This sets the club up for a draw, but it's a lot more subtle than in the HIGHER setting.
Again from this UPRT setting, you can move towards the LOWER or HIGHER markings to make subtle changes.
That's how to adjust your SIM2 driver regardless of which model you have. However, remember to choose your model based on whether you want straight or draw characteristics and then use the hosel adjustment to change the loft, lie, and tweak the draw/fade bias.
And it is very important to remember that you can adjust your driver on the range or at any time before or after your round, just not during it!
