The dream scenario at the Texas Open is for a player who hasn’t already secured a Masters spot to emerge victorious. Yesterday that dream came true for JJ Spaun.

The only one of four Saturday co-leaders not playing in the final group, Spaun seemed nervous early and opened with a double bogey six.

From then on however the World No. 242 J.J. engineered five birdies including a 50 foot holeout on the ninth to post 13-under and win by two over veterans Matt Jones and Matt Kuchar.

For Spaun, 31 himself, the victory was his first in 147 events and brought with it that golden ticket to this weeks Masters Tournament, where he'll make his debut.

Using his Ping G425 driver Spaun ranked 10th in Strokes Gained: Off-the-Tee (2.627). That set the foundation for a clip of 23rd in SG: Approach (2.820) and 13th in SG: Around (3.315) with his Srixon ZX7 irons and Cleveland RTX ZipCore wedges. Using a Scotty Cameron prototype putter Spaun circled one eagle and 23 birdies, T1 in total birdies, versus eight bogeys and two doubles ( 17th SG: Putting (2.982)). The win jumps him from 240th to 103rd in the latest world golf rankings.
