Five Of The Best Drivers For Under £200 - January 2018

A new year and new golf season to look forward means only one thing; we’re going to be being barraged by blurb, seduced by slots, and tempted by Twist Faces, Bars, and Braces. But haven’t we all heard it before? Marketing is great and the manufacturers do a fantastic job in selling us the dream of more fairways and shorter approaches. But are these gains worth the additional financial outlay? We’ve picked six drivers that could go toe-to-toe with anything launched in 2018, and they’re all under £200 on Golfbidder!

First there's the original M1 driver. This was one of the most successful and winning-most ever on Tour (before it was replaced by the M1 2017). It was the first to feature TaylorMade’s now iconic carbon crown and alignment aid – which has been retained in the next 2 drivers from the manufacturer. It also features moveable weight technology, again something that was retained in the M1 2017, and again (albeit with some evolution) in the new M3. The plus-minus 2-degree loft sleeve is unchanged since this driver.

Released in the same year was the original TaylorMade M2 driver. This was also loved on Tour and is the stripped back model (no weight tracks) for golfers who trust the engineers to set the dial to max for ultimate distance. Like the M1 it features the carbon crown and alignment aid as well as the plus-minus 2-degree loft sleeve.

If you’re a Callaway fan, then the XR16 is the value driver for you. It’s 460cc profile and R-Moto face technology make this as long and forgiving as anything you can try today. If you’re looking for a further confirmation of how long the XR16 is, Joe Miller used one win the Long Drive World Championship!

For Ping players, there's the Ping G series driver. When it was launched a couple of years ago this driver laid its cards on the table. It was designed for forgiveness and distance! It features a titanium crown, low back weighting, and Turbulators for better aerodynamics and increased clubhead speed. Turbulator technology has been retained in the latest driver releases from Ping.

Srixon are making a name for themselves in the irons market but have you considered their drivers? The Srixon Z 765 can match anything released the same year from TaylorMade or Callaway in terms of distance and could be better suited for better players who like to shape the ball. It’s also one of the best-looking drivers to be released in recent years. A premium looking club, and again, change from £200.

Finally, we’ve picked the Titleist 915 driver. Titleist are known for their steady evolution and as a result do not make huge gains when they release new clubs. Older Titleist models will offer you the best value as you’re not going to be missing out on too much the new driver has to offer. The 915 D2 model features the same Sure Fit system and has an Active Recoil Channel that is still present in the latest release, the 917. This driver was also hugely successful in the bags of Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas and you'll have change from your £200 for a couple of boxes of Pro-V1's!
