Adjust The Callaway Big Bertha Alpha 816 DBD Driver

The Callaway Great Big Bertha 816 Double Back Diamond is one of the most adjustable drivers out there. Two independent hosel sleeves as well as a pair of chambers in the sole results in a huge number of combinations you can try to get your optimum launch. Luke Williams from Callaway takes us through the process.

The first stage of the process is to adjust the hosel. This is where loft and lie angle are adjusted. Based on the stated loft of the driver you can choose whether you want to go up or down the number of degrees indicated. Once you’ve picked your new loft you can now choose your lie angle, standard or draw. The draw setting is going to be a little more upright and is going to help you start the ball on more of a draw ball flight. To actually make the adjustments, take the wrench included and remove the screw from the bottom of the shaft. Once the head and shaft are disconnected you can move the two hosel dials to your desired position. Once in place reconnect the shaft and head and tighten the screw back up. Make sure you tighten until you hear a click as this indicated the screw is tightened enough. The click is built in to make sure you don’t over tighten, but without it the club head could come loose as the club impacts the ball.

The second area of adjustment on the Alpha 816 is the moveable weighting – the Gravity Core. The Gravity Core is a moveable weight with a tungsten tip that alters the CG location and spin characteristic without changing the look of the club from address. If you put the heavier end towards the crown this is going to raise the CG location and increase spin a little and vice versa. In the Alpha 816 there are two chambers in which the Gravity Core can sit. One in the toe that will produce a more neutral ball flight and one in the heel if you want a little more draw bias. To make the adjustment simply unscrew the chamber cap, out the gravity core in with the with up or down and then screw the cap back on until you hear the click from the wrench.

Once you’ve done these two adjustments you’re all set.
