Every year golfers are bombarded with marketing about a new driver which will change your game overnight – or so the manufacturers make it seem. The catch? It’ll cost you up to £500 for the new best in class.

But what about the best in class from last year, or the year before?

At Golfbidder, we’re on a mission to give all golfers the best golf clubs for the best value. In this article we’ve picked the best drivers from our warehouse for under £250 - about half the price of a new release. Each of these drivers was the next best thing when they were launched and are now available, second-hand, for a fraction of the price they were.

If you’re looking to upgrade your current driver, or a beginner looking to buy your first driver, any one of these is going to be a great option for you.

Our top picks for drivers under £250 to have a closer look at are:

Ping G425 driver Best for under £250

The best driver available on Golfbidder for under £250 is without question the Ping G425. It is still widely used on Tour despite the G430 having been released in 2023 and features much of the same technology as the latest driver from Ping, just for a lot less money.

At Golfbidder, we have been staying for a long time, when it comes to maximising both distance AND accuracy/forgiveness, Ping solved the equation a long time ago.

There is a big 23-gram weight at the back of the club head which can slide from heel to toe to move the CG location and correct a hook or slice.

The addition of this weight is made possible by the continous advancements in the aerodynamic properties of Ping’s Dragonfly crown technology. The reduction in drag increases club head and ball speed for the same input from the golfer.

A precision forged face maximises flexion at impact for huge ball speeds while internal ribbing reinforces key sections for a solid feel and better sound on mis-hits.

And on top of all that you also have hosel adjustability to fine-tune your ball flight and dial-in your preferred shot shape.

What you’ll love about the Ping G425 driver:

  • Out the box playability
  • Evolutionary approach to design
  • Simple to adjust

Cobra LTDx driverBest under the radar

The LTDx driver is relatively conservative in looks by Cobra standards which is one of the reasons why it is our pick for the best under the radar driver for less than £250.

Cobra continues to offer sensational value in their drivers as they strive to compete with the leading manufacturers and the LTDx driver family is packed full of technology which make is a quite distance beast, capable of competing with anything you put it up against.

The key contributor to its distance is the Cobra PWR-COR, a multi-material design consisting of steel, titanium, and aluminium to position mass low and forward to combine lower spin with fast ball speed.

The face is the second act of the show! The CNC Infinity Face wraps around the leading edge to expand the zone where maximum balls speed is achieved. Then, layered on top of this are a further 15 H.O.T. Zones which have strategic thicknesses to increase Smash Factor across a wider face area.

Of course, as with all modern drivers, there’s adjustability through Cobra’s MyFly hosel, too!.

What you’ll love about the Cobra LTDx driver:

  • H.O.T. Face tech for faster speeds
  • Multi-material design
  • Perfectly balanced ‘Zero’ CG

TaylorMade SIM2 driver – Best for beginners

The SIM2 from TaylorMade is not just best driver for under £250, but for Team Golfbidder, it’s the best driver in the whole warehouse!

There was a big change from TaylorMade between the SIM2 and the Stealth driver – the start of the Carbonwood era. However, the SIM2 did not become a bad driver over night.

The conformance limits are still the same whether the face is made from Titanium or Carbon and for us the face in the SIM2 is a good as you can get. TaylorMade technologies such as TwistFace, Speed Injection, Inverted Cone Technology, Inertia Generator, and a Multi-Material construction, are in the SIM2, just like they are in the Stealth 2!

Of course there’s the hosel adjustability too for fine-tuning your flight. But for us, lock it in STD and watch it fly!

What you’ll love about the TaylorMade SIM2 driver:

  • Unique TwistFace technology
  • Striking blue and yellow decals
  • Inertia Generator for effortless speed

Callaway EPIC Max driverBest if you like adjustability

If you like the freedom of adjustability, then the EPIC Max driver from Callaway is perfect for you thanks to almost limitless setup combinations.

In contrast to the drivers above the Callaway EPIC Max driver features multiple layers of adjustability. First, there is a full heel-toe sliding weight on the back of the head (where is should be) so you can set up for draw’s or fade’s, or correct a hook or slice. Then there’s Callaway Opti-Fit system where you can pick from 16 different combinations as well as adjust loft and lie independently to find your perfect ball flight.

But there's far more to this driver than adjustability. An A.I. designed Flash Face is braced by Jailbreak technology to maximise the energy returned to the ball at impact and making this one of the fastest drivers Callaway has ever produced.

For the better player there is the EPIC Max LS which has it's CG located just behind the face for a faster, lower ball flight. And if you've just started playing golf, then try the EPIC Speed driver which is setup as the engineers wanted (and who's to argue with them!).

What you’ll love about the Callaway EPIC Max driver:

    • Sliding weight and hosel adjustability
    • Packed full to technology Callaway still uses today
    • Hi-gloss black crown

The TSi2 model (there is a TSi3 available too) is the one that’s been optimised by the engineers at Titleist. This allows you just to fine-tune loft via Titleist’s Sure-FIt system and then watch your tee shots fly further and straighter than ever before!
