If drivers were judged solely on build quality and technology then Yonex would one of the market leaders. Yonex has been committed to lead innovations in the world of golf after the introduction of plastic fishing floats rendered their wooden versions old fashioned overnight.
Yonex is one of a small number of golf manufacturers who also specialise in other sports (along with Wilson and Mizuno) and they believe this gives them a competitive advantage; the ability to bring their knowledge and experience of racquet sports to their golf clubs. In 1982 Yonex started to make golf clubs with carbon components. Following the successful use of lightweight materials the company explored further and soon introduced the world's first all-graphite head driver; the Carbonex II.
Yonex continued to develop and innovate drivers and when they launched the Nanospeed i driver it was announced as the Winner at the Golf Europe Product Awards. Its carbon crown, titanium face, and tungsten weight port is still the blueprint for many modern drivers including their EZONE GT driver. This driver features a vertical polishing pattern on the face to minimise the amount of side spin imparted on the ball.
Yonex golf clubs are played on the European Tour and Asian Tour by Ryo Ishikawa, who created history, becoming the youngest Japanese professional golfer to win on the Japanese tour aged 17. He also holds the record of the lowest score ever on a major golf tour, 58.
