Graeme McDowell

Residence: Portrush, Northern Ireland

DOB: 30/07/1979

Graeme, like an increasing number of promising Irish and UK golfers took up a golf scholarship in America. He was awarded the Haskins Award as the #1 ranked collegiate golfer while at the University of Alabama. In this year he won an incredible 6 events out of 12 appearances. He also had the best stroke average of 69.6 - beating the previous best held jointly by Luke Donald and Tiger Woods. In 2002, before turning professional, he played a prominent role in Great Britain and Ireland’s retention of the Walker Cup in 2001 at Sea Island, Georgia. McDowell turned professional in 2002 and won the Volvo Scandinavian Masters, only his fourth start on the European Tour, in his rookie year. In 2005 he began to divide his time between the European and PGA Tour’s. He was not yet a full member of the PGA Tour but his top-50 placing in the Official World Golf Rankings ensured he received invitations to play in many events in the U.S. Graeme produced one of the great shots of 2007 when he holed his second shot at the treacherous 17th at Valderrama for an albatross which catapulted him into a share of the lead for the season-ending Volvo Masters but he double bogeyed the 72nd hole to finish in a tie for 4th. He produced another of the great shots of his career, when a sublime 7-iron went to within a foot of the cup on the 3rd extra hole to secure a win at the inaugural Ballantine’s Championship. He then went on to capture the Barclays Scottish Open title before earning 2.5 points for the European team in the 2008 Ryder Cup. Not quite enough to ensure victory as the Europeans went down 16½ to 11½.

Graeme McDowell Tournament History

2008 World Golf Championship - CA Championship

13-16 March - Arnold Palmer Invitational - Bay Hill Club and Lodge. In typical Tiger fashion, the world #1 sank a 24-foot putt on the 72nd hole at Bay Hill for his fifth consecutive win, much to the annoyance of Bart Bryant who was looking for his first win since 2005. This was his biggest challenge since this streak began 7 months ago, Woods outlasted 45-year-old Bart Bryant and won with a birdie putt on the 72nd hole for the first time in 7 years. He turned and slammed his cap to the ground, letting out a roar to celebrate his 64th career victory, tying Ben Hogan at #3 on the PGA Tour career list.

In Graeme McDowell's bag...Graeme failed to make an impact during the WGC CA Championship with rounds of 70, 71, 72 and 73 resulting in a midfield finish of a tie for 48th. Graeme McDowell like World #2 Phil Mickelson is one of Callaway Golf's leading players. He signed with Callaway in 2008 after leaving Taylor Made and going it alone in 2007. He used the Callaway Fusion FT-3 from the tee and complimented this with a Callaway X-Tour 13˚ 3-wood. He is another professional who is yet to start using a hybrid. Instead he chose to have a full set (3-P) of Callaway X-Forged irons. Graeme completed his set with the Callaway X-Forged wedges. He rounded of his set with an Odyssey White Hot #7 putter.
