Peter Lonard

Residence: Berkshire, England
DOB: 17/07/1967
Peter Lonard is not exactly a household name – he’s one of those golfers who you are probably only vaguely aware of as he quietly criss-crosses the globe banking large sums of money. He turned pro in 1989 and began his career on the PGA Tour of Australasia – moving onto the European Tour in 1992. Out of action for a couple of years afterwards having contract a rare mosquito-carried virus which damaged his eyes, he worked as a club pro for three years before returning to top the Australian PGA Tour in 1997. Lonard joined the US Tour in 2002, winning over $1 million in his first season. His most recent win was in the NCI Heritage in South Carolina in 2005 where he beat Darren Clarke into second place.

2007  Arnold Palmer Invitational – MasterCard

March 15-18 2007. Played at the Bay Hill Club in Orlando, Florida. After three runners-up spots at Bay Hill, Vijay Singh finally put the doubts to rest by banking the $990,000 first prize – and logging the 31st win of his career – in doing so equalling Harry Copper’s record for the most number of PGA Tour victories by a foreign-born player. For those amongst us of a certain age, we can take comfort from the fact that Vijay has won an astonishing 19 of those victories since turning 40. There is hope for us yet!
