Sean O'Hair

Sean O'Hair

Residence: West Chester, Pennsylvania

DOB: 11/07/1982

Unlike the vast majority of contemporary American professional golfers Sean O'Hair did not go to college, university or even graduate from high school. He turned professional in 1999 aged just 17 after his junior year at high school under the direction of his father. The family business was soon sold and the family moved to Florida where Sean enrolled at the David Ledbetter Golf Academy. Sean entered PGA Tour Qualifying School on each occasion from 1999, but was unsuccessful at his first 5 attempts. He played on various developmental tours with limited success making the cut in only 4 out of 18 starts on the Nationwide Tour. In 2004 O'Hair made it through all three stages of PGA Tour Qualifying, including the Final Stage at his first attempt to earn his full PGA Tour card for the 2005 season. His rookie year on Tour was a dramatic success. Victory at the John Deere Classic and a 2nd place at the EDS Byron Nelson Championship saw season earnings come to $2,461,482 and he won PGA Rookie of the Year honours. Early in the 2006 season he was the youngest man in the top fifty of the Official World Golf Rankings. The Players Championship in 2007 was the scene for one of the low-lights in Sean’s short career. He feared 9-iron had flown the island green on the 17th hole but it hadn’t and a resulting birdie-birdie-birdie finish for a round of 66, gave him a 2 stroke lead from Phil Mickelson after 54 holes. When it came to the 17th in the final round Sean was in second place. Trailing by two strokes in an effort to cut into the lead with a birdie, he elected to go for the pin and his tee shot flew over the green into the water. His third shot also ended up in the water and he finished the hole with a quadruple bogey 7; a decision that cost him approximately $747,000 in prize money. On March 9, 2008, O'Hair came from three strokes back (behind Stewart Cink) to win the PODS Championship by 2 strokes with a final score of 4-under-par. The following week at the Arnold Palmer Invitational Sean followed up his first win of the year with a 3rd place finish where a 3rd round 63 was the highlight round of his year.

2008 Arnold Palmer Invitational

13-16 March - Arnold Palmer Invitational - Bay Hill Club and Lodge. In typical Tiger fashion, the world #1 sank a 24-foot putt on the 72nd hole at Bay Hill for his fifth consecutive win, much to the annoyance of Bart Bryant who was looking for his first win since 2005. This was his biggest challenge since this streak began 7 months ago, Woods outlasted 45-year-old Bart Bryant and won with a birdie putt on the 72nd hole for the first time in 7 years. He turned and slammed his cap to the ground, letting out a roar to celebrate his 64th career victory, tying Ben Hogan at #3 on the PGA Tour career list.

In Sean O'Hair's bag...Starting the final round in a tie for 1st place with eventual winner Tiger Woods, a final round 71 (-1) could not stop Sean fall into a tie for 3rd place. Sean O'Hair has what could be deemed the traditional set up in his Tour bag. It started with a Taylor Made Burner 07 TP 9.5˚. He carried 2 fairway woods (TaylorMade R7's) and a full set (3-P) of Taylor Made r7 TP irons, complimented by Taylor Made rac Satin wedges 54˚ and 58˚ and a TaylorMade Rossa Monza Spider putter.
