Martin Laird

Martin Laird

Residence: Scottsdale, Arizona

DOB: 29/12/1982

Martin is one of a large number of young British golfers that chose to take up a spot at an American University - Martin attended Colorado State. He initially learned the game as a left-hander but switched to playing right-handed before too long. After turning professional in 2004 Martin played on the Nationwide Tour. In 2007 he picked up his first professional victory at the Athens Regional Foundation Classic on his way to a 13th place finish and thus a PGA Tour card for the 2008 season. His rookie year on the PGA Tour did not get started until the second half of the season. Three top-10 in a row put him well on the way to securing his card for the 2009 season. However it was not until after the final event of the season - where Martin finished 21st - that martin knew he would be playing on the PGA Tour next year. He finished the season in 125th place - right on the cut mark! Martin made one cut out of his first 9 at the start of the 2009 season. He has recently found a slight bit of form and secured his first top-25 of the season. He has still got a long road ahead of him if he is to secure his place on Tour for the 2010 season.

2008 Bob Hope Chrysler Classic

17-20 January - Bob Hope Chrysler Classic - Bermuda Dunes, Silver Rock, Nicklaus Private at PGA West, Palmer Private at PGA West and Palm Springs, California. 27-year-old Trahan, who had won just once before, charged from 4 shots back Sunday to overtake Justin Leonard and win the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic. Trahan shot a sparkling 7-under 65 to beat Leonard by 3 strokes. The younger player said a 4-shot deficit looked imposing heading into the final round of the 5-day tournament but came through to prevail in the end.

In Martin Laird's bag...In a consistent start to the season a pair of 70’s over the last 2 rounds saw Martin finish in a tie for 56th place. He opened the extended Bob Hope Chrysler Classic with a 71 followed by a 69 and a further 71. Consistency but not really setting the course alight. This is a beautiful close up of Martin’s bag this week. We can clearly see the TaylorMade R& SuperQuad driver that he was using. There is also a TaylorMade Burner TP fairway wood. His irons we can see are a combination of TaylorMade RAC TP Forged and TaylorMade RAC CGB. There is also a pair of TaylorMade RAC TP Black wedges
