Matthew Millar
Residence: Amaroo, Australia
DOB: 05/09/1976
Matthew took up the game with some friends aged 11, when he would go down to the local club to hone his skills. Had to decide whether to play rugby union or golf as a junior but soon opted for golf. Matthew is coached by Rowan Dummett in Melbourne, and admires Ernie Els and Retief Goosen in particular for the way they play the game.
Worked hard on his swing and fitness during 2005, and reaped the rewards as he progressed through all three stages of The European Tour Qualifying School to earn his card for the first time. He managed to hold on to it by the narrowest of margins when finishing 115th on the 2006 Order of Merit. A tied for 38th finish and the €11,000 that came with it were just enough.
However he was not so lucky in 2007 when he dropped out of the exempt places at the end of the season. However in 2008 he came back through Qualifying School by claiming the 20th card and a place on the 2008 European Tour.
In his first event he finished joint fourth and could have thought that he’d finally turned a corner in his career, But by then end of the season he was in a all too familiar place - the first tee at Q-School. He triumphed again to earn his card for the 2009 season but has not got off to the greatest start with a tie for17th being his best finish out of the 3 cuts he has made so far.

Matthew Millar Tournament History
2008 Irish Open |
24-27 January - Buick Invitational - Torrey Pines. Tiger Woods joined elite company on the final day of the Buick Invitational, even though he might as well have been playing alone. He thrilled the 4-deep gallery with an improbable flop shot from the trampled grass behind the 9th green to save par. He sent Torrey Pines into delirium with a 60-foot birdie putt that started in one direction and slid into the cup from the other. He made 3 straight bogeys on the back 9, a rarity for him when he's in the lead. And none of it mattered. The outcome was never in doubt at the Buick Invitational, only the final score. A 10-foot birdie on the 18th gave Woods a 1-under 71 and an 8-shot victory, the ninth time in his career that he has won by at least that many. |
In Matthew Millar's bag...This week did not get any better for the Australian until the final round. And by this point a79 being improved to a 76 it’s all a little too late. His opening rounds of 73 only just saw him through to the weekend’s action and the weekends rounds saw him only move backward to eventually end up in 65 place. This is the second time that we’ve caught up with Matthew in as many seasons. It is nice to see the full range of Ping G10 woods still in the bag. but we can clearly see that he has chosen to upgrade from the Ping i5 irons that we saw him with last time to the Ping I10 irons that we can see in this photo.
