Tim Herron
Residence: Scottsdale, Arizona
DOB: 06/02/1970
Tim was nicknamed ‘Lumpy’ on the first day of his job at a golf course in Wayzata. The nickname stood at golf course, but not at school ("There already was a 'Lumpy' at school"). We’ll leave it to you to work out why from our biog photo - Tim Herron’s father played in the US Open in 1963 – as did his grandfather in 1934 and his sister Alissa won 1999 U.S. Mid-Amateur – so quite a pedigree. Tim attended the University of New Mexico and was a member of the 1993 US Walker Cup Team before turning professional the same year. His early career got off to a good start when he won the Honda Classic in 1996. He won three times in his first four seasons on the full Tour - victories that included the Bay Hill Invitational in 1999.
There was a seven year winning drought before his next win in 2006 when he beat Richard S. Johnson in a play-off at the Bank of America Colonial, picking up over $1m in prize money for his week’s work. This win saw him ending 2006 in the Top 40 on the US Tour and in the top 50 of the Official World Golf Rankings. Our biog photo was taken in March 2007 at PODS Championship at the Innisbrook Resort in Florida which was won by 1998 Open Champion Mark Calcavecchia. Tim finished tied 38th.
The highlight of his 2008 season came at the Deutsche Back Championship in September where he finished in a tie for 5th place. A 65 in the final round helped him climb the leader board to secure his first top-10 of the year. Tim followed this up with a further 2 top-10’s at the Texas Open and Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open before the end of the season.

Tim Herron Tournament History
2009 Arnold Palmer Invitational |
26-29 March 2009 - Bay Hill Country Club and Lodge - This week marked the return of the Tiger Woods we all know and love. After 9 months out of action after re-constructive knew surgery - a birdie putt at the 72nd hole saw Tiger win as Bay Hill for a sixth time. Those familiar back-nine heroics and a putt that everyone knew he was going to drain saw the world number 1 come from 5 strokes back on the final day - equalling his career best comeback. This remarkable comeback must have been great to watch apart from the eyes of Sean O’Hair who Woods beat into second place. |
In Tim Herron's bag...Tim was 4-under par after the first round and looking to be in close contention going into the weekend. However he followed this cracking opening round up with rounds of 72 (+2), 74 (+4) and 73 (+3) saw him move backwards pretty past through the field - finally landing in a tie for 30th after play had finished. This is one of the more interesting bags on the PGA Tour. Tim is still using a set of Ping Eye 2 irons that were released back in the mid 1990’s - but like the old cliché goes - if it ain’t broke then don’t fix it. And of course you can still get these clubs here at Golfbidder! He has brought things up to date with his driver and fairway woods - both coming from the TaylorMade Burner Tour series. His TaylorMade Rescue Mid as we can see from the image has taken a battering over the years. His wedge we can see is a Cleveland 900 Tour Action Gun Metal - and what looks like a Titleist 200 Series Oil Can hiding behind. He uses the same putter as Tiger Woods (a Scotty Cameron Newport 2).

2007 PODS Championship |
8-11 March - PODS Championship - Westin Innisbrook - Copperhead Course. Won by 1998 Open Champion Mark Calcavecchia with a 10 under par score of 274. This was Calcavecchia’s first Tour victory since the 2005 Bell Canadian – and his 13th win in total. The $954,000 first prize takes him over the $20m career earnings for his career. He finished at 10-under 274 – and had a bit of a let-off when Heath Slocum missed a 4-foot par putt on the final hole which would have taken him into the play-off. |
In Tim Herron's bag...Interesting to see Tim using a set of Ping Eye 2s - the design of which is about as old as he is. Apparently he gets a new set every year. These are red dot - which is one degree flat. You can just about see his wedges at the front - a Titleist Vokey 200 Gun Metal 54 degree and he also uses a Cleveland Tour Action 900 60 degree. The headcovers hide a TaylorMade r7 425 TP 9.5 degree driver, a TaylorMade 16 degree Rescue Mid and the older Ping ISI Tec 14 degree 3 wood. The putter is the same as Tiger's - a Scotty Cameron Newport 2
