Johan Edfors
Residence: Dubai, UAE
DOB: 10/10/1975
Johan learned his golf at the University of Texas and turned professional in 1997. Our biography photo of Johan was taken in March 2007 and shows him crunching his 8.5 degree Callaway Big Bertha Fusion FT-3 at the World Golf Championships at Doral in Florida.
Johan showed enormous potential when he topped the 2003 Challenge Tour Rankings having secured nine top ten finishes - including two victories. He made a dramatic improvement during his fifth year on the Challenge Tour after spending the previous four years outside the top 100 in the Rankings. He narrowly missed out on retaining his card in 2004 and returned to the Challenge Tour in 2005, finishing 45th on the Rankings before winning back his place on Tour at the Qualifying School – Final Stage.
Johan Edfors enjoyed a great year on the European Tour in 2006 – with three victories - the TLC Classic in China, The Quinn Direct British Masters and the Barclays Scottish Open – he became the first Qualifying School graduate to win three times in the following season. These victories left him in 10th position in the European Order of Merit in 2006 – and in the top 50 in the Official World Golf Ranking. It’s a fantastic result for Edfors who spent several years on the second-tier Challenge Tour before finally making his breakthrough.
2008 got off to a great start with a 4th place finish at the Qatar Masters - only his second start of the season. Top-10’s finishes followed in 3 of the following 6 weeks. Johan could not sustain this level of performance through the rest of 2008 with his highest finish in the second half of the season being a tie for 19th. Johan finished the season in 65th position on the Order of Merit.

Johan Edfors Tournament History
2008 BMW PGA Championship |
22-25 May - BMW PGA Championship - Wentworth Club. Miguel Angel Jiménez completed the BMW treble when he won the BMW PGA Championship with a birdie on the second hole of a play-off to deny England’s Oliver Wilson his maiden European Tour title. Jiménez, who won both the 2004 BMW Asian Open and the 2004 BMW International Open, became the first player to claim the BMW ‘grand slam’ when he tapped in for a winning birdie after tying Wilson with a final round of four under par 68to finish on -11 after 72 holes. |
In Johan Edfors's bag...This was not the best week of Johan's season. Only braking par in the opening round, following rounds of 73, 74 and 75 saw him finish in a tie for 58th. Underneath his Puma Golf headcovers Johan carries a Callaway FT-3 driver and a Callaway FT-3 hybrid. His irons and wedges are also from Callaway. His irons are the Callaway FT's and his wedges are Callaway X-Forged.

2006 World Golf Championship - American Express Championship |
28 September-1 October - American Express WGC - The Grove. From the Ryder Cup matches at the K Club in Ireland, many of the world’s best players headed across the Irish Sea to The Grove in Hertfordshire for the UK leg of the World Golf Championships. With an incredible 23 under par total, Tiger Woods demolished the field to take an astonishing 12th win out of 22 WGC events. Tiger left runners-up Ian Poulter and Adam Scott a very distant eight shots behind. The World Golf Championships are played over five continents – and feature the top 50 players from the Official World Golf Rankings along with top finishers on the money lists of six Tours comprising the International Federation of PGA Tours (PGA TOUR, European Tour, Australasian Tour, Japan Golf Tour, Asian Tour and Southern Africa Tour). The formats vary - match play, strokeplay and team - but the purses are always big. On this occasion, Tiger walked away (or rather flew away in his private jet) with over 1 million Euros. Hardly worth turning up was it?! |
In Johan Edfors's bag...Johan appears to have been using Callaway Fusion irons at the Amex - but we'll confirm this shortly. What we do know is that he has Callaway's Forged wedges - vintage finish and - like an increasing number of tour players - is using Sonartec utility woods. The driver is a Callaway FT-3 and the full bag shot photo clearly shows his Odyssey White Hot putter.
