Boo Weekley
Residence: Jay, Florida
DOB: 23/07/1973
Thomas ‘Boo’ Weekley - apparently nicknamed after Yogi Bear’s friend ‘Boo Boo’ - is one of the most colourful characters on tour, riding his driver like a bull when he teed off at the 2008 Ryder Cup being one on many instances of how he has brought a breath of fresh air to the PGA Tour. Boo has clearly decided to enjoy success while it lasts as he has truly had to earn his shot at the big time. A series of unsuccessful trips to Q School after turning professional in 1997 saw Boo having to spend several years on the Nationwide Tour before gaining his full PGA Tour Card in 2006 after finishing 7th on 2006 Nationwide Tour money list.
Boo hit 68 of 72 greens in regulation at the Chattanooga Classic in 2006, breaking the Nationwide Tour record of 66 set by Chad Campbell at the 2001 Permian Basin Open. Boo used to have to wear waterproofs whenever he played golf due to cotton pants causing him to break out in a rash but is now sponsored by the outdoors apparel company Mossy Oak. His first victory came at the Verizon Heritage in April 2007 which saw him enter the top-50 of the rankings later in 2007.
In 2008, Weekley successfully defended his title at the Verizon Heritage, and rose into the top-25 of the rankings. Boo has risen to 25th on the PGA Tour Money List after this victory and a series of top-10 finishes. Weekley shot to prominence at the 2008 Ryder Cup, with a succession of virtuoso displays of golf including an emphatic 4&2 win over Oliver Wilson in the Sunday Singles.

Boo Weekley Tournament History
2009 World Golf Championship - CA Championship |
12-15 March 2009 - Doral Golf and Spa Resort - Phil Mickelson won his first World Golf Championships title on Sunday at the CA Championship, where he held off Nick Watney to take the title by one stroke and his 36th career victory. However this was perhaps not the most news worthy story of the week. During his opening round, Henrik Stenson thought it a good idea to play from out of the water! After stripping down to his boxer shorts the Swede preceded to do just this. And it was down to PGA Tour photographer Kyle Auclair to capture this magical moment. With the world’s best golf photographers trailing Tiger Woods, Kyle decided he was going to follow other players instead. Little did he know this particular sequence of images would be plastered on newspapers, websites and television shows all over the country the next day. |
In Boo Weekley's bag...The Ryder Cup star is not having a great start to the 2009 season. A tie for 9th was his best finish going into the WGC CA Championship. A promising opening round of 69 showed signs of promise. However a pair of 75’s in the second and third rounds followed and put pay to any hopes of a respectable finish. Boo finished with a level par round of 70 and +1 for the week. This left him in a tie for 61st place. This image of Boo and his putter was taken just a few weeks after the previous images of Boo. We can see his putter in full view and can identify it as a Never Compromise NCX RAY - BETA.

2009 Arnold Palmer Invitational |
26-29 March 2009 - Bay Hill Country Club and Lodge - This week marked the return of the Tiger Woods we all know and love. After 9 months out of action after re-constructive knew surgery - a birdie putt at the 72nd hole saw Tiger win as Bay Hill for a sixth time. Those familiar back-nine heroics and a putt that everyone knew he was going to drain saw the world number 1 come from 5 strokes back on the final day - equalling his career best comeback. This remarkable comeback must have been great to watch apart from the eyes of Sean O’Hair who Woods beat into second place. |
In Boo Weekley's bag...Boo did not manage to break par this week and unsurprisingly finished towards the back of the field. It was his final round of 77 that really did the damage. This took him to +12 for the week after rounds of 70, 72 and 73 in the three previous rounds. This is a cracking pair of images of Boo’s clubs this week. We can clearly see the new Cleveland Launcher 09 driver headcover and the HiBore XLS fairways that accompanied it. We can also see the Cleveland HiBore XLS hybrid that Boo was using this week. The back of his Cleveland CG Red irons are clearly visible to us too. Although it’s not blindingly obvious there is also a Cleveland CG14 wedge in Boo’s bag as well.

2008 Bob Hope Chrysler Classic |
17-20 January - Bob Hope Chrysler Classic - Bermuda Dunes, Silver Rock, Nicklaus Private at PGA West, Palmer Private at PGA West and Palm Springs, California. 27-year-old Trahan, who had won just once before, charged from 4 shots back Sunday to overtake Justin Leonard and win the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic. Trahan shot a sparkling 7-under 65 to beat Leonard by 3 strokes. The younger player said a 4-shot deficit looked imposing heading into the final round of the 5-day tournament but came through to prevail in the end. |
In Boo Weekley's bag...The low round of the week, a 62 on the second day of competition was not enough to act as a catalyst and give Boo his second victory of the season. He finished in a tie for 8th place, 6 shots adrift from runaway leader D.J Trahan. The now famous driver that Boo 'rode' down the fairway at the 2008 Ryder Cup was a Cleveland HiBORE XL 9.5˚. Boo complimented this driver with 2 fairway woods (Cleveland HiBORE XLS 15° and Cleveland HiBORE 19°) and a hybrid (Cleveland HiBORE XLS Hybrid 3i). Judging by the rest of his bag, Boo does not like to hit long irons. He had the Cleveland #4 and #5 irons from their CG Red set. He only used number 6-P from Cleveland’s premium iron offering the CG1. He completed his Cleveland clubs with 2 specialist wedges; a Cleveland CG10 52° and a Cleveland CG14 58°.

2007 Barclays Scottish Open |
12-15 July - The Barclays Scottish Open - Loch Lomond. As the curtain raiser to the Open Championship the following week at Carnoustie, the Barclays Scottish Open attracted some of the biggest names in the world – Phil Mickelson, Ernie Els, Luke Donald and others all made the trip. It wasn’t, however, one of the big names who walked away with the £50,000 first prize – but a virtually unknown Frenchman - Gregory Havret - who holed a tricky 5-footer on the first extra hole to beat world no 3 Phil Mickelson in a play-off. The title also earned Havret the last remaining spot at the Open. |
In Boo Weekley's bag...In Boo Weekley's bag at Loch Lomond - a Cleveland HiBore XL 9.5 degree driver, Cleveland HiBore 15 and 19 degree 3 and 5 woods, and an 18 degree HiBore Hybrid. The irons are mostly Cleveland CG1s - many hidden behind lead tape to affect the weightings - although it looks like he has a TA7 and CG4 in the longer irons. The wedges are Cleveland CG10s, the putter a Never Compromise GM2 Exchange #7
