Phillip Price
Residence: Newport, Wales
DOB: 21/10/1966
Phillip Price is one of the best golfers to come out of Wales and has represented his country nine times in the World Cup. Began playing at Pontypridd Golf Club as a boy and was inspired when he saw his first big tournament, the 1978 Dunlop Masters at St Pierre, won by Tommy Horton. He turned professional in 1989, and gained entry to the main PGA Tour two year later – since when he has twice finished in the top 10 in the Order of Merit (2000 and 2003).
Phillip Price has three European Tour victories to his name – the 1994 Portuguese Open, 2001 Algarve Open and a wire-to-wire victory at the 2003 European Open at the K Club – venue for the 2006 Ryder Cup.
Although he’s always been a solid performer, Price really came to the attention of the golf public during the 2002 Ryder Cup at the De Vere Belfry when, having secured 10th spot on the team, he beat Phil Mickelson in the singles to notch a crucial point for the Europeans.
Phillip has not progress into the second half of his career in the way many thought he would. He made only 10 cuts on the European Tour in 2008, with his best finish being a 26th place at the British Masters.

2007 BMW PGA Championship |
24-27 May - BMW PGA Championship - West Course at Wentworth. The BMW PGA Championship was played out on a rain-lashed West Course at Wentworth in Surrey. Traditionally, the PGA attracts one of the strongest fields on the European Tour and this time was no exception with Vijay Singh, Ernie Els, Michael Campbell and others all making the trip across the pond. It was not, however, one of the better known superstars who walked off with the trophy and 725,000 Euro first prize, but Anders Hansen from Denmark who holed a 25 foot birdie putt on the first sudden-death play-off hole against England’s Justin Rose. This was only Hansen’s second victory on Tour – bizarrely the only other win was the same tournament – then called the Volvo PGA – five years earlier in 2002. |
In Phillip Price's bag...In Phillip Price's bag at the BMW - most of the irons are Callaway X-20s, but it also appears Phillip uses the more forgiving Big Bertha Series for the long irons (a 3 and 5 can clearly be seen). He has a Big Bertha Fusion fairway, FT-3 hybrid and FT-3 driver.
