Jean-Baptiste Gonnet
Residence: Saint Maxime, France
DOB: 28/09/1982
Jean comes from a serious sporting family. His father was a professional basketball player and his mother played professional tennis and as a result of this Jean almost chose tennis over golf. Thankfully for golf though he dedicated himself to golf and turned professional in 2004.
He is an admirably consistent player, he started on the Alps Tour and progressed to the Challenge Tour, where he won his Tour card by finishing 17th on the Order of Merit.
Jean’s finest season to date was in 2007. He finished in the top 100 on The European Tour Order of Merit recording consecutive top ten finishes towards the end of the year, coming tied second in the Scandinavian Masters – his highest finish – and tied eighth in The KLM Open.
A trio of top-15 finishes in the UAE were the highlights of the 2008 season. His form tailed off towards the end of the season and it was touch and go as to whether he would be playing on the Tour in 2009. He eventually finished in 117th in the Order of Merit.
Jean-Baptiste is yet to record a top-10 in 2009. His best finish came at the Madeira Open where he finished 12th. He is currently in 119th place in the Race to Dubai standings.

Jean-Baptiste Gonnet Tournament History
2008 The Open Championship |
17-20 July - The Open Championship - Royal Birkdale. The 137th Open Championship was successfully defended by Padraig Harrington. He shot -4 on the back 9 on the Sunday to pull away from Ian Poulter and overnight leader Greg Norman. The Open this year was without one notable absentee as World #1 Tiger Woods was recovering from knee surgery. Greg Norman became the oldest golfer ever to hold at least a share of the 54-hole lead when he led by 2 strokes on +2. Due to extremely high winds, no one managed to play under par for the round, and it was first time since 1986 when the 54-hole leader was not under par. Despite a wrist injury that almost forced him to withdraw prior to the tournament Harrington pulled away from the field with a tremendous back 9 and became only the fifth golfer to retain the Open Championship in the last 50 years. |
In Jean-Baptiste Gonnet's bag...Usually, an opening round of 75 would put you out of the tournament. However at the Open this week, Jean-Baptiste was still in the running. Rounds of 72 and 73 followed and the Frenchman was on his way to a solid finish in his first Major of the season. However a final round of 80 saw him plummet down the field into a tie for 67th place.
