Louis Oosthuizen

Residence: Mossel Bay, South Africa
DOB: 19/10/1982
One of a group of up and coming young talents to emerge from South Africa recently, and a member of the Ernie Els Foundation, receiving support and inspiration from the great man himself, Lodewicus Theodorus ‘Louis’ Oosthuizen was a member of the South African team that won the World Amateur Team Championships in 2000. He won several amateur tournaments in his homeland before turning professional in 2002 and has won three professional tournaments on the South African Sunshine Tour including the 2007 Dimension Data Pro-Am and Telkom PGA Championship. Our photo of Louis was taken at the World Golf Championships at Doral in Florida, March 2007, where tying 50th added $45,000 to the young man’s coffers.

 2008  Irish Open

Played at the magnificent Adare Manor Hotel & Golf Resort from 15th - 18th May 2008, the championship was memorable not only because Richard Finch's victory, but by his falling into the River Maigue after hitting his third shot on th 18th. His second shot ended up on the fringe of the riverbank but he still decided to go for the green. The might swipe he gave it knocked him off balance, and into the drink he went, much to the amusement of the surrounding specators. His caddie hauled him from the water and, dripping wet, he made his way to the green and took three putts which was enough to bank the 416,000 Euro first prize.

2006  American Express - World Golf Championships

28th September to 1st October 2006. From the Ryder Cup matches at the K Club in Ireland, many of the world’s best players headed across the Irish Sea to The Grove in Hertfordshire for the UK leg of the World Golf Championships. With an incredible 23 under par total, Tiger Woods demolished the field to take an astonishing 12th win out of 22 WGC events. Tiger left runners-up Ian Poulter and Adam Scott a very distant eight shots behind. The World Golf Championships are played over five continents – and feature the top 50 players from the Official World Golf Rankings along with top finishers on the money lists of six Tours comprising the International Federation of PGA Tours (PGA TOUR, European Tour, Australasian Tour, Japan Golf Tour, Asian Tour and Southern Africa Tour). The formats vary - match play, strokeplay and team - but the purses are always big. On this occasion, Tiger walked away (or rather flew away in his private jet) with over 1 million euros. Hardly worth turning up was it?!
