Kenny Perry

Residence: Franklin, Kentucky

DOB: 10/08/1960

Kenny Perry was born in Elizabethtown, Kentucky, but lived most of his formative years in Franklin, Kentucky, in Simpson County.Took up golf at age 7 with encouragement from his father, who spent hours teeing balls up for him. Named winner of the 2002 Charles Bartlett Award, given to a professional golfer for his unselfish contributions to the betterment of society, by the Golf Writers Association of America after he bought 142 acres of land and borrowed more than $2.5 million to design and build the only public course in the town. He designed it for mid-to-high handicappers and kept it affordable: 18 holes with a cart is $28 on weekdays. Works from time to time behind the counter, often asked, "Do you know Kenny Perry?" Perry turned professional in 1982. He failed in his first two attempts to qualify for the PGA Tour at Q-school. He missed by 1 stroke one year and received word that his wife had gone into labor during the fourth round the next year. In 1985 a Franklin based businessman along with David Lipscomb University lent him $5,000 for one last shot at Q-school. Rather than repay the loan, he was asked to give a percentage of his tour earnings to Lipscomb if he qualified. He tied for 40th at Q-school, earning his card with a two-shot cushion. Perry and his benefactor agreed on 5 percent, and he has maintained that commitment to Lipscomb ever since in the form of a scholarship for residents of Simpson County. In Perry's first few seasons, he found it a struggle to retain his PGA Tour exempt status but finally secured his first win in 1991 at the Memorial Tournament. Two more wins followed in the mid 1990s, another in 2001, and three victories in 2003. Perry won in 2005 at the Bay Hill Invitational and the Bank of America Colonial. In 2006 he became the tenth man to reach US$20 million in PGA Tour career earnings and is currently the highest all-time PGA Tour money winner without a major championship. In 2008, he had a steady start making 10 of 11 cuts, and from May he had five top ten finishes including three victories Memorial Tournament, Buick Open and the John Deere Classic in five starts taking the active lead in the FedEx Cup. The PGA Tour season finished on a further high note for the man from Kentucky as he was a member of the successful Ryder Cup team, contributing 2½ towards the US total from his 4 matches.

2009 Arnold Palmer Invitational

26-29 March 2009 - Bay Hill Country Club and Lodge - This week marked the return of the Tiger Woods we all know and love. After 9 months out of action after re-constructive knew surgery - a birdie putt at the 72nd hole saw Tiger win as Bay Hill for a sixth time. Those familiar back-nine heroics and a putt that everyone knew he was going to drain saw the world number 1 come from 5 strokes back on the final day - equalling his career best comeback. This remarkable comeback must have been great to watch apart from the eyes of Sean O’Hair who Woods beat into second place.

In Kenny Perry's bag...Kenny shot three consistent opening rounds (70, 71 and 72) to start the round just inside the top-25. A final round of 67 (one of the best of the day) saw Kenny jump up into the top-10. From the photo we can see that unsurprisingly Kenny is using the new TaylorMade R9 driver. His fairway wood is a TaylorMade Burner Tour Launch. From the close up we can see clearly that Kenny was using TaylorMade r7 TP irons and we have been able to decipher that his wedges are TaylorMade RAC TP’s. Finally although it’s not pictured sources tell us that Kenny was using a Ping G2i Craz-E putter.
