Alexander Noren

Residence: Alta, Sweden

DOB: 12/07/1982

Alexander grew up playing all sports before his attention focussed on golf at the age of 8. He was so dedicated that he was often late home for dinner as he spent so much time on the range determined to get things right. In his latter seasons as an amateur, he combined 4 years of top college golf at Oklahoma State University with his economic studies. He eventually graduated with a degree in Business Marketing. After 8 years competing for the Swedish national team as an amateur, decided to join the paid ranks in 2005 and quickly proved he had the game to cope with the demands of the professional arena. Alexander graduated in 3rd place from the 2006 European Challenge Tour Rankings before completing a solid first season on The European Tour in 2007. His best finish in his rookie season came at the KLM Open. Opening rounds of 65 and 67 set the tone for a great week. He added further top-10 finishes at the Mallorca Classic and Deutsche Bank Player Championship of Europe. Alexander has continued the great form that he had during his rookie season into 2008. He has had another host of top-10 finishes. His best finish came at the Castello Masters towards the end of the season where he finished alone in 3rd place. These finishes have seen him rise to a career best finish of 31st on the European Tour Order of Merit.

2008 The Open Championship

17-20 July - The Open Championship - Royal Birkdale. The 137th Open Championship was successfully defended by Padraig Harrington. He shot -4 on the back 9 on the Sunday to pull away from Ian Poulter and overnight leader Greg Norman. The Open this year was without one notable absentee as World #1 Tiger Woods was recovering from knee surgery. Greg Norman became the oldest golfer ever to hold at least a share of the 54-hole lead when he led by 2 strokes on +2. Due to extremely high winds, no one managed to play under par for the round, and it was first time since 1986 when the 54-hole leader was not under par. Despite a wrist injury that almost forced him to withdraw prior to the tournament Harrington pulled away from the field with a tremendous back 9 and became only the fifth golfer to retain the Open Championship in the last 50 years.

In Alexander Noren's bag...Opening rounds of 70 and 72 put Alexander in a great position at the half way mark. However increasingly worsening conditions saw the Swede fire a75, 77 over the weekend to fall into a tie for 19th. Ping European Tour pro Alexander Noren was using their G10 driver and G i10 irons.
