Nick O'Hern
Residence: Perth, Australia
DOB: 18/10/1971
Nick O'Hern was born in Perth, Western Australia. He is left-handed and took up golf at the age of nine. His father was a three-handicap golfer who also played baseball for Australia, and Nick followed closely in his father’s footsteps to represent Western Australia for baseball. Nick was also a talented tennis player. When he finally had to choose one - it was a tossup between turning professional at baseball, tennis or golf. He soon chose to concentrate on golf and turned professional in 1994.
He began his professional career on the European Tour after success at the European Tour Qualifying School in 1998 and has played regularly on the European Tour since 1999. He has won four tournaments in Australia, and continues to play on the PGA Tour of Australasia in the northern winter. His best finish of 12 in the Order of Merit (now the Race to Dubai) came in 2005. Nick is the only player who has beaten Tiger Woods in matchplay more than once.
In 2005 O'Hern has begun to play quite regularly in the United States. He was not a member of the PGA Tour, but having reached the top twenty of the Official World Golf Rankings, he was able to count on a good number of automatic invitations and sponsor’s exemptions for PGA Tour events. In 2006 he became a member of the PGA Tour on the basis of his membership of the International Team at the 2005 Presidents Cup. In 2006, O'Hern won the Australian PGA Championship on the fourth hole of a two-man play-off with Peter Lonard.
2006 marked Nick’s first full season on the PGA Tour and it could not have started bett.er a fifth and sixth place finish at the first 2 World Golf Championship event of the season. This form however did not continue through the rest of the season. Nick finished 62nd on the money list - doing enough to secure his card without troubling the scorers.
Nick is yet to win on either the European Tour or PGA Tour in America. However he has had numerous second and third place finishes - most recently coming at the Shell Houston Open in April 2009.

Nick O'Hern Tournament History
2009 Arnold Palmer Invitational |
26-29 March 2009 - Bay Hill Country Club and Lodge - This week marked the return of the Tiger Woods we all know and love. After 9 months out of action after re-constructive knew surgery - a birdie putt at the 72nd hole saw Tiger win as Bay Hill for a sixth time. Those familiar back-nine heroics and a putt that everyone knew he was going to drain saw the world number 1 come from 5 strokes back on the final day - equalling his career best comeback. This remarkable comeback must have been great to watch apart from the eyes of Sean O’Hair who Woods beat into second place. |
In Nick O'Hern's bag...Opening rounds of 71 followed by a disappointing 75 were not enough for Nick to make the cut and play over the weekend. Nick O’Hern is a Ping player through and through! His bag here starts with a Ping Rapture driver and a pair of Ping TisI Tec fairways. He also carries a Ping G5 hybrid. His irons are Ping’s premium S57 offering and his putter is a Ping G2i C10 long length. The only clubs in his bag that are not manufactured by Ping are his Titleist 200 series oil can wedges.
