Alejandro Canizares
Residence: Malaga, Spain
DOB: 01/09/1983
Alejandro comes from one of the foremost golfing families in Spain – his father is José Maria Canizares who played in four Ryder Cup Teams and his brother Gabriel plays on the Challenge Tour. Alejandro and Jose Maria also became only the third father and son to both win European Tour events – the others being Craig and Kevin Stadler and Antonio and Ignacio Garrido. Our biog photo of Alejandro Canizares was taken during the 2007 US Open sectional qualifying held at the Walton Heath Golf Club in June 2007.
Alejandro Canizares attend Arizona State University where he won the 2003 NCAA golf championship - the top annual competition in US college golf. Previous winners have included Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson.
He has had a lightning start to his professional career - winning the 2006 Imperial Collection Russian Open – this was only his third start as an Affiliate Member of the European Tour – the earliest victory for any Affiliate Member, beating the previous record holders Sergio Garcia and Graeme McDowell who won on their fourth outings.
Alejandro had a quiet 2008, playing just 16 events on the European Tour and securing only 2 top-10 finishes. Unless they came in the the majors, he could not have pick 2 better event to play well. Top-10 finishes in the BMW PGA Championship and British Masters help him secure a spot in the magical top-115 on the Order of Merit to ensure playing rights for the following season.

Alejandro Canizares Tournament History
2008 Irish Open |
24-27 January - Buick Invitational - Torrey Pines. Tiger Woods joined elite company on the final day of the Buick Invitational, even though he might as well have been playing alone. He thrilled the 4-deep gallery with an improbable flop shot from the trampled grass behind the 9th green to save par. He sent Torrey Pines into delirium with a 60-foot birdie putt that started in one direction and slid into the cup from the other. He made 3 straight bogeys on the back 9, a rarity for him when he's in the lead. And none of it mattered. The outcome was never in doubt at the Buick Invitational, only the final score. A 10-foot birdie on the 18th gave Woods a 1-under 71 and an 8-shot victory, the ninth time in his career that he has won by at least that many. |

2007 Wales Open |
31 May - 3 June - The Welsh Open - Celtic Manor. Played between 31st May and 3rd June 2007, the 2007 Wales Open took place at Celtic Manor – venue for the 2010 Ryder Cup – and was won by South Africa’s Richard Sterne who holed a five footer on the 18th to take the £250,000 winner’s cheque – and dash Welsh hopes by edging out the big home favourite Bradley Dredge. Dredge was the joint overnight leader, but having run up an amazing five birdies in a row from the ninth, his drive on 18 clipped a fairway bunker from where he had to chip out short. A superb pitch left him with a six-footer to go into the play-off, but tantalisingly, it caught the lip and just stayed above ground. |

Although hidden in this photo, we know he also uses the Ping Tour wedges and a Ping Rapture driver.
