Charley Hoffman

Charley Hoffman

Residence: Las Vegas, Nevada

DOB: 27/12/1976

Charley was born and raised in Poway, California and began playing golf at the age of 7. Charley grew up playing at Stone Ridge County Club in his home town of Poway where his Brother and parents are still members. While still at high school Charley became the first two-time California State High School Champion and managed to qualify 3 times for the Buick Invitational as an armature - the event is held close to his home town in San Diageo. He was the youngest player in the field when he first did this - aged 16 - and then 2 years later he went on to make the cut aged just 18. University recruitment officers came to watch Charley and after a visit with the UNLV team he decided to become a ‘Running Rebel’. While at UNLV Charley was a member of the 1998 NCAA Championship Team. Charley played on the Nationwide Tour for the first few years as a professional Charley finished 19th on the money list in 2005 to finally earn his first PGA Tour card for the following season. In his rookie season on the full Tour Charley won over $1million - largely thanks to 5-top ten finishes. His second season on the Tour could not have got off to a better start. In his first event of the year Charley secured his first Tour win. Charley has not gone on to win since this but has put in a number of top-10 performances. The most recent was a tie for 2nd at the 2009 FBR Open.

Charley Hoffman Tournament History

2009 World Golf Championship - CA Championship

12-15 March 2009 - Doral Golf and Spa Resort - Phil Mickelson won his first World Golf Championships title on Sunday at the CA Championship, where he held off Nick Watney to take the title by one stroke and his 36th career victory. However this was perhaps not the most news worthy story of the week. During his opening round, Henrik Stenson thought it a good idea to play from out of the water! After stripping down to his boxer shorts the Swede preceded to do just this. And it was down to PGA Tour photographer Kyle Auclair to capture this magical moment. With the world’s best golf photographers trailing Tiger Woods, Kyle decided he was going to follow other players instead. Little did he know this particular sequence of images would be plastered on newspapers, websites and television shows all over the country the next day.

In Charley Hoffman's bag...And opening round of 68 this week paved the way for a solid performance at the second World Golf Championship event this year. He followed this up with rounds of 70 then a 67 to put him in with a great chance going into the final round. Unfortunately he could not replicate the form of earlier in the week and a 73 left him just outside the top-10 in a tie for 13th place. This is another cracking photo from our photographer in the states. We can clearly see the branding on the headcover and the stamps on the irons and wedges which tells us what Charley was playing with this week. We can see that he was using a Titleist 909 D2 driver and a matching fairway wood. We can see that his irons were the Titleist Forged 690 model and that he was also carrying a Titleist Vokey 200 Series wedge. Although it’s not pictured we’re told that his putter was a Scotty Cameron Red X.

2008 Bob Hope Chrysler Classic

17-20 January - Bob Hope Chrysler Classic - Bermuda Dunes, Silver Rock, Nicklaus Private at PGA West, Palmer Private at PGA West and Palm Springs, California. 27-year-old Trahan, who had won just once before, charged from 4 shots back Sunday to overtake Justin Leonard and win the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic. Trahan shot a sparkling 7-under 65 to beat Leonard by 3 strokes. The younger player said a 4-shot deficit looked imposing heading into the final round of the 5-day tournament but came through to prevail in the end.

In Charley Hoffman's bag...Opening rounds of 68, 72 and 71 would have been good enough to secure a solid mid-field finish for Charley. However this was not good enough and Charley lit the blue touch paper in the penultimate round and fired a 63 to put him in and amongst the leading contenders. A final round of 67 secured him a top-10 finish and a cheque for almost $150,000. Not the greatest shot of Charley’s Bag but we can just make out the important clubs in his bag. We can tell from the headcover that this week he was using a Titleist 907 D2 driver. Next to this in the bag is a pair of what look like Titleist 906 F4 fairway woods. We cannot see the back of his irons but our friends at Titleist tell us that he is using their 690 MB model. We can just see his putter headcover popping out from behind his driver and have identified this as a Scotty Cameron Rex X.
