Kevin Sutherland

Kevin Sutherland

Residence: Sacramento, California

DOB: 04/07/1964

Kevin Sutherland was born in Sacramento, California and graduated from Christian Brothers High School. He then went on to attend Fresno State University with his brother David and made the golf team as a walk-on freshman. He was teased by his teammates for his unorthodox swing and unusual grip; he silenced his peers though as he gained All-American status twice in his 4 years at Fresno State and became the most successful player ever to have spent time there. His younger brother David followed in his brother's footsteps and gained status as an All-American golfer. Both Sutherland brothers were members of the PGA Tour from 1997-2004 and the two were paired together for the first time on during the opening rounds of the 1999 Compaq Classic of New Orleans. As a professional, Sutherland qualified for the PGA Tour in 1992 and has been a regular member of the Tour ever since. His first professional victory came at the 1997 EA Sports Challenge Championship where he defeated defending champion Paul Goydos. He won his one and only PGA Tour title at the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship in 2002 but has continued to play very consistent golf throughout his whole career, and it is very surprising that he hasn't won more tournaments. Kevin has the season of his PGA Tour career in 2008. 6 top-10 finishes, including a playoff loss to Vijay Singh at the 2008 Barclays where he pared the first extra hole when Garcia and Singh both drained putts of over 40-feet for birdies sending Sutherland into a tie for 2nd. A further playoff loss came at the Frys.com Open when Cameron Beckman just squeezed home. This runner-up finish however vaulted Sutherland well inside the top thirty on the 2008 PGA Tour money list, the top-50 in the world and secured him a spot in the 2009 Masters Tournament...so not too many hard feelings.
