Stephen Leaney

Residence: Perth, Australia

DOB: 10/03/1969

Stephen Leaney was born in Busselton, Western Australia. He turned professional in 1992 and won several tournaments in his home country in the 1990s, despite having a rib cut out of his right side in December 1993 after doctors diagnosed a blood clot. Between 1998 and 2003 he made the top 15 on the European Tour Order of Merit three times and won four European Tour events. The latest of these victories came at the 2002 Linde German Masters where an opening round of 64 set the tone for a strong march to victory for the Australian. Since 2004 he has played mainly on the based PGA Tour, but he has performed only moderately. His best finish in the United States remains a second place at the U.S. Open in 2003 and this season has not fared any better. After a poor 2008 (195th on the Money List) Stephen’s starts have been limited to 4 so far. And sadly he is not making the most of these - only making the cut in one event where he finished in a tie for 58th place.
