He turned professional in 2001 during qualifying for The 2001 Open Championship and concentrated on the Challenge Tour in his first season, finishing ranked 30th, before earning his European Tour card at the 2002 Qualifying School. Since when he has won twice– the 2004 Open de Madrid and the 2007 Celtic Manor Wales Open where he dashed Welsh hopes by beating home favourite Bradley Dredge into second spot. Richard has also won on the South Africa Sunshine Tour, most recently (July 2007), the Vodacom Championship – which took him into the top-30 of the Official World Golf Rankings. In 2008 he picked up his third victory on the European Tour at the Joburg Open after a play-off victory at the Royal Johannesburg and Kensington Golf Clubin his home country of South Africa. This victory saw him break through the £2 million barrier in career earnings on The European Tour. This victory was his only top-10 of the 2008 season. Richard Sterne Tournament History

2008 World Golf Championship - CA Championship

13-16 March - Arnold Palmer Invitational - Bay Hill Club and Lodge. In typical Tiger fashion, the world #1 sank a 24-foot putt on the 72nd hole at Bay Hill for his fifth consecutive win, much to the annoyance of Bart Bryant who was looking for his first win since 2005. This was his biggest challenge since this streak began 7 months ago, Woods outlasted 45-year-old Bart Bryant and won with a birdie putt on the 72nd hole for the first time in 7 years. He turned and slammed his cap to the ground, letting out a roar to celebrate his 64th career victory, tying Ben Hogan at #3 on the PGA Tour career list.

In Richard Sterne's bag...Richard recovered from the dissapointment of a 77 in the second round. Rounds of 67 and 70 over the weekend pulled him into the top-50 and with it brought a cheque for almost $50,000. Richard's driver is a Taylor Made Burnemer TP and so are his fairway woods. Richard also carries a pair of Taylor Made Rescue TP hybrids. His irons are Taylor Made r7 TP's. His wedges and putter both come from Callaway. His wedges are Callaway X-Tour and his putter is a Odyssey White Hot 2-Ball.

2007 Barclays Scottish Open

12-15 July - The Barclays Scottish Open - Loch Lomond. As the curtain raiser to the Open Championship the following week at Carnoustie, the Barclays Scottish Open attracted some of the biggest names in the world – Phil Mickelson, Ernie Els, Luke Donald and others all made the trip. It wasn’t, however, one of the big names who walked away with the £50,000 first prize – but a virtually unknown Frenchman - Gregory Havret - who holed a tricky 5-footer on the first extra hole to beat world no 3 Phil Mickelson in a play-off. The title also earned Havret the last remaining spot at the Open.

In Richard Sterne's bag...A real hotchpotch of equipment in Richard Sterne's bag at the Scottish Open - TaylorMade RAC LT2 irons, Callaway X Tour Vintage wedges, a Ping G2 HL (High Launch) long iron, Nike SQ fairway wood, a TaylorMade r7 fairway wood and TaylorMade r7 425 or 460 driver.
