Ryuji Imada

Residence: Tampa, Florida

DOB: 19/10/1976

Ryuji made his debut on the PGA Tour in 2004 after finishing third on the Nationwide Tour money list being one of five players to win more than $300,000. Before turning professional Ryuji had a sparking amateur career. In 1995 he was name as the Rolex Junior of the Year. Like a lot young professionals, he perused his career on the collegiate scene in America. Ryuji attended the University of Georgia where he was a first-team All-American and All-SEC as a freshman in 1999. He helped lead the Bulldogs to their first national championship and finished runner-up to Luke Donald in the individual competition. A final round of 76 blew his chances of securing his PGA Tour card for the 2001 season - as he missed the mark by 3 strokes. However Ryuji went on to excel on the Nationwide Tour for a number of years - including 2 wins, that latest coming at the BMW Charity Pro-AM. In his Rookie year his best finish was a 5th at the Booze Allen Classic. This was his only top-10 of the season. Things did not start to get any better until 2008 where he secured a number of top-10 and his first PGA Tour victory at the AT&T Classic. With the first win monkey off his back in 2009 Ryuji has settled into becoming an established Tour Pro. He has already secured a number of top-10 finishes in 2009.

Ryuji Imada Tournament History

2009 Arnold Palmer Invitational

26-29 March 2009 - Bay Hill Country Club and Lodge - This week marked the return of the Tiger Woods we all know and love. After 9 months out of action after re-constructive knew surgery - a birdie putt at the 72nd hole saw Tiger win as Bay Hill for a sixth time. Those familiar back-nine heroics and a putt that everyone knew he was going to drain saw the world number 1 come from 5 strokes back on the final day - equalling his career best comeback. This remarkable comeback must have been great to watch apart from the eyes of Sean O’Hair who Woods beat into second place.

In Ryuji Imada's bag...Ryuji was a shot ahead of eventual winner Tiger Woods going into the final 2 rounds after opening with rounds of 70 and 66. However he still has a lot to learn. As tiger went on to post scores of 71 and then a 67, Ryuji carded a pair of 73’s to slip down the field into a tie for 17th. With only on club in the image we needed some help from our friends at Titleist this time. The one club that we can see is a Titleist 695 CB iron. Our friends at Titleist told us that he was also using the 909 D2 driver this week as well as the 906F2 fairway wood. He was also carrying a Titleist 200 Series 48 degree wedge and was trying a Vokey Prototype too. His putter was a Scotty Cameron putter prototype.
