Trevor Immelman
Residence: Lake Nona, Florida and Richmond, England
DOB: 16/12/1979
Born in Cape Town into a golfing family (his father was commissioner of the South African Sunshine Tour), Immelman took up golf at the age of 5 and turned professional in 1999. He played on the Challenge Tour in Europe during his 1st year as a professional finishing 10th on the money list enabling him to take the step up to the full European Tour in 2001. Following this initial success he has made the top 20 on the European Order of Merit 3 times.
His debut win came in 2003 when he won The South African Open. He went on to win the World Cup of Golf with partner Rory Sabbatini in 2003. His second win came exactly a year after his first when he became the first player to successfully defend the South African Open since Gary Player. He followed this up with a 3rd European Tour victory at the Deutsche Bank Open. Trevor now splits his time between the European Tour and the PGA Tour in America.
In 2006, Trevor Immelman won his first event on the US Tour at the Cialis Western Open which along with eight top ten in 24 starts he finished 2006 in the top 10 of the PGA Tour money list and was named Rookie of the Year.
On December 13, 2007 Immelman withdrew from the South African Airways Open due to severe discomfort around his ribcage area and problems breathing. He went into surgery the following week and doctors discovered a lesion approximately the size of a golf ball on his diaphragm and after more tests they discovered that it was benign. Treatment and recovery caused him to miss the first eight weeks of the 2008 PGA Tour season however, Immelman came back to win the 2008 Masters Tournament. Despite recording a double bogey on the 70th hole, Immelman finished with a score of 8 under par to secure his 1st major crown.
Our biography photo of Trevor Immelman was taken at the PODS Championship in March 2007 at the Copperhead Course in Palm Harbour, Florida.

Trevor Immelman Tournament History
2008 The Open Championship |
17-20 July - The Open Championship - Royal Birkdale. The 137th Open Championship was successfully defended by Padraig Harrington. He shot -4 on the back 9 on the Sunday to pull away from Ian Poulter and overnight leader Greg Norman. The Open this year was without one notable absentee as World #1 Tiger Woods was recovering from knee surgery. Greg Norman became the oldest golfer ever to hold at least a share of the 54-hole lead when he led by 2 strokes on +2. Due to extremely high winds, no one managed to play under par for the round, and it was first time since 1986 when the 54-hole leader was not under par. Despite a wrist injury that almost forced him to withdraw prior to the tournament Harrington pulled away from the field with a tremendous back 9 and became only the fifth golfer to retain the Open Championship in the last 50 years. |
In Trevor Immelman's bag...Consistency was the key to securing Trevor a top-20 finish in the very difficult conditions at The Open. An opening pair of 74’s and a closing pair of 73’s was good enough for a tie for 19th place but he was probably keen to improve a little more over the course of the weekend. Trevor is part of a growing number of PGA Tour players that are being signed up to the Nike stable. He used the Nike SUMO 5000 to average over 290 yards off the tee. Trevor carried a 15˚ Nike SasQuatch 2 fairway wood and 2 hybrids. His Nike SUMO² Hybrid (17˚ and 20˚) has replaced the 3-iron of his Nike CCI irons. Trevor had used blades his whole life before he switched to #4,#5and #6 CCI irons with his Nike Forged blades still being 7-P. He fell in love with the CCI irons and decided to use them for his entire set (4-P). Trevor complimented his Nike irons with a set of Nike SV wedges in 50˚, 54˚ and 60˚ lofts.

2007 Barclays Scottish Open |
12-15 July - The Barclays Scottish Open - Loch Lomond. As the curtain raiser to the Open Championship the following week at Carnoustie, the Barclays Scottish Open attracted some of the biggest names in the world – Phil Mickelson, Ernie Els, Luke Donald and others all made the trip. It wasn’t, however, one of the big names who walked away with the £50,000 first prize – but a virtually unknown Frenchman - Gregory Havret - who holed a tricky 5-footer on the first extra hole to beat world no 3 Phil Mickelson in a play-off. The title also earned Havret the last remaining spot at the Open. |

2006 World Golf Championship - American Express Championship |
28 September-1 October - American Express WGC - The Grove. From the Ryder Cup matches at the K Club in Ireland, many of the world’s best players headed across the Irish Sea to The Grove in Hertfordshire for the UK leg of the World Golf Championships. With an incredible 23 under par total, Tiger Woods demolished the field to take an astonishing 12th win out of 22 WGC events. Tiger left runners-up Ian Poulter and Adam Scott a very distant eight shots behind. The World Golf Championships are played over five continents – and feature the top 50 players from the Official World Golf Rankings along with top finishers on the money lists of six Tours comprising the International Federation of PGA Tours (PGA TOUR, European Tour, Australasian Tour, Japan Golf Tour, Asian Tour and Southern Africa Tour). The formats vary - match play, strokeplay and team - but the purses are always big. On this occasion, Tiger walked away (or rather flew away in his private jet) with over 1 million Euros. Hardly worth turning up was it?! |
