Richard S. Johnson

Residence: Jupiter, Florida
DOB: 15/10/1976
Richard S. Johnson was born in Stockholm and joined the US PGA Tour in 2003. His grandfather is an American who married a Swede and settled in Sweden which may explain why Johnson bases himself in the US. A bit of a daredevil as a teenager, he played handball at a high level in Sweden and competed in the Swedish skateboarding championships. Had his best year ever in 2006, finishing 50th on the US Money list helped by top 10 places at the BellSouth Classic (7th) at Shell Houston (6th) – and most notably, 2nd at the Bank of America Colonial where he lost to Tim Herron in the playoff. Johnson’s $648,000 runner’s up cheque was, however, his biggest pay day ever. Our biog photo of Johnson was taken at the PODS Championship at the Innisbrook Resort in March 2007

2007  Arnold Palmer Invitational – MasterCard

March 15-18 2007. Played at the Bay Hill Club in Orlando, Florida. After three runners-up spots at Bay Hill, Vijay Singh finally put the doubts to rest by banking the $990,000 first prize – and logging the 31st win of his career – in doing so equalling Harry Copper’s record for the most number of PGA Tour victories by a foreign-born player. For those amongst us of a certain age, we can take comfort from the fact that Vijay has won an astonishing 19 of those victories since turning 40. There is hope for us yet!

In Richard S. Johnson's bag...
In Richard's bag at Bay Hill, Cleveland CG1 irons (complete with lead tape to give them a bit more weight), Cleveland HiBore driver and fairway wood. Although a Cleveland staffer, we can also see a TaylorMade Rescue Dual TP utility wood. According to Cleveland's website, he uses CG10 wedges, but difficult to see in this shot.
