Ping i Wedge Wedge

Ping i Wedge. New for 2007. The versatility and performance of the original Ping Eye 2 sand wedge inspired the design of the new Ping i Wedge. Borrowing the proven engineering advancements of the tour favorite - including the concave sole - the Ping i Wedge's Sand Cup design positions the pivot point further from the lead edge and features an aggressively tapered heel and toe. This combination gets the wedge under the ball quickly in the sand or from turf and prevents digging. The deep, multi-level cavity maximizes forgiveness and positions the centre of gravity towards the centre of the face and low for a solid feel.

I won the 56 and 60 lofts in a pro-am so decided to purchase the 52 as well so I've side-lined my vokey's in preference for these Ping I's. I find them very comfortable to look down and they sit very nicely behind the ball. Sure they look a little more chunky than the vokey's but I like the feel and my first shot on the course proper with them was an up and down from 30 yards or so .... I didn't even need to get my putter out! The lob wedge (60) will require a little bit of practice as I'm not used to using anything this lofted but I can't wait to get out there and try them again, almost encourages you to miss the green on your approaches jsut to use them more often. I offer a first class recommendation on my experience with them so far!

The only doubt I have ever had about Ping wedges is when you are on really tight lies, say seaside links, where they do not provide me with the confidence that you can "nip" the ball cleanly off the turf. My Pro agreed with me, but asked me to try the Ping i Wedge. What a difference it makes. It sits really tight, gets the ball up really quickly, and the dreaded "thin" is a thing of the past. Not a fashionable wedge, but good enough for my Pro and me now - try it.
