Campbell stays positive after Augusta disappointment

Chad Campbell refused to be despondent after his Masters challenge faltered with a bogey at the first extra hole on Sunday.

The 34-year-old Texan found a greenside bunker with his second shot at the par-four 18th and failed to get up and down, leaving Angel Cabrera and Kenny Perry to battle it out for the green jacket.

Campbell, who also finished as runner-up at the 2003 US PGA Championship, was determined to remain sanguine in the face of his latest disappointment.

"I missed a lot of opportunities out there but I will take a lot of positives away from it. I played well all week and I definitely feel good about it," he told reporters.

A four-time winner on the PGA Tour, Campbell seized the early lead at Augusta with a blistering seven-under-par 65 in his first round.

He birdied the first five holes and picked up three more shots at the 12th, 13th and 14th before two late bogeys left him two strokes adrift of the course record.

Campbell followed his 65 with scores of 70 and 72 in the next two rounds, before a closing 69 set up the playoff with Cabrera and Perry.
