Montgomerie confirms Irish Open appearance

Yonex golfer Colin Montgomerie has signed up to play at next month''s 3 Irish Open at the County Louth Golf Club.

The European Ryder Cup captain is a three-time winner at the Irish Open, having captured the title in 1996, 1997 and 2001.

Fresh from making his 500th appearance on the European Tour, Montgomerie will again feature in the event, which takes place at the Baltray course from May 14th to 17th.

Main sponsor 3 is on board for the first time and the tournament also has a new venue, with the County Louth Golf Club replacing Adare Manor.

"I have enjoyed playing in Ireland throughout my career and I have to say that the Irish crowds are amongst the best in the world in terms of their knowledge of golf and their levels of support for the players," Montgomerie commented.

"All of the elements are in place for a terrific Irish Open."

Last year''s Irish Open was won by Englishman Richard Finch, who memorably fell into the river while closing out his two-stroke victory.
