Yonex golfer Colin Montgomerie believes that Europe is well-placed to regain the Ryder Cup at Celtic Manor in 2010.
Speaking during his first official visit to the Newport course as Ryder Cup captain, Montgomerie described the current crop of young European golfers as "potential world-beaters".
According to the European Tour website, the 45-year-old Scot hinted that he plans to deploy a mixture of youth and experience to defeat Corey Pavin''s US side in October next year.
"Trust me, this is a very exciting time and a fantastic time for European golf," Montgomerie said.
"The core of the team that has been formed over the past three or four Ryder Cups is still there and of course, added to that, is the fact we have a very exciting crop of young players coming through."
Montgomerie named Rory McIlroy, Alvaro Quiros and Martin Kaymer as the young players who are likely to feature in his Ryder Cup plans.
Having failed to qualify for the Masters, Montgomerie''s next tournament as a player will be the Volvo China Open from April 16th to 19th.
