Villegas backs Woods to come back strong

Camilo Villegas is not expecting Tiger Woods to relinquish his grip on the number one spot this year, despite his long injury layoff.

Speaking to reporters ahead of the Mercedes-Benz Championship in Hawaii yesterday (January 6th), the Cobra player claimed that Woods "knows exactly what he needs to do" to retain his position as the world''s top golfer.

"He''s going to come back healthy and he''s going to keep winning golf tournaments," Villegas said.

The Colombian player, who turns 27 today, also indicated that he plans to continue his ascent in the world rankings this year after rising to number seven during 2008.

He stated: "I''ve got my own goals and I just want to win golf tournaments. I''ll do everything I need to do to improve myself."

Following back-to-back victories in the final two FedEx Cup playoffs last year, Villegas has been hailed as one of the PGA Tour''s brightest prospects along with Anthony Kim.

The Medellin-born player is nicknamed Spiderman due to his unusual method of reading putts by crouching down on the green.
