Daly reveals PGA Tour suspension

John Daly admitted on Wednesday (December 31st) that the PGA Tour has handed him a six-month suspension for "conduct that brought unwelcome publicity" during 2008.

The 42-year-old American said the suspension represented the lowest point of his colourful career, which has included two Major victories and numerous controversial incidents.

Daly explained that he had decided to make the six-month ban public knowledge "to be fair to my fans and tournament organisers".

Events which did not go down well with PGA Tour officials last year included the night Daly spent in jail after appearing intoxicated outside a Hooters restaurant in North Carolina.

"Is it fair that I got suspended? It''s not fair in reality, but it''s probably fair in perception," the California-born player said.

"Right now, my home tour is probably Europe, and I love the European Tour. I always have. But my home is the United States. That''s where I would rather play."

Daly became embroiled in more controversy last month after he destroyed a spectator''s camera at the Australian Open in Sydney.
