Sweden clinch World Cup at Mission Hills

Robert Karlsson and Henrik Stenson finished three strokes ahead of Spanish pair Miguel Angel Jimenez and Pablo Larrazabal to win the Omega World Cup for Sweden yesterday (November 30th).

The two players shot a nine-under-par 63 in the closing foursomes to finish on 27 under par at Mission Hills, clinching the first Swedish World Cup victory since 1991.

As the two highest-ranked players at the event in China, Karlsson and Stenson were the pre-tournament favourites but started the final day four strokes behind Spain.

However, Jimenez and Larrazabal could only manage a 70 in the final round and finished on 24 under par, while Australia and Japan tied for third place on 18 under.

Stenson said afterwards: "It''s a great honour to play for your country and obviously even better when you win.

"I was starting to run out of tournaments, so it was nice to win this one."

Currently ranked number 12 in the world, the 32-year-old has enjoyed a consistent season without managing a victory.

Stenson has recorded nine top-ten finishes in 2008, including joint-fourth at the US PGA Championship in August.
