Spain surge into World Cup lead

Srixon golfer Miguel Angel Jimenez and Pablo Larrazabal fired Spain into the lead at the Omega World Cup in China today.

Trailing first-round leaders Germany by two strokes at the start of play, the Spanish pair produced an impressive foursomes display to seize the advantage at Mission Hills.

Jimenez and Larrazabal carded a nine-under-par 63, leaving them with a 17-under-par total of 127 after two rounds.

Highlights of their round included a 16-foot putt for eagle at the third hole from Jimenez, with Larrazabal adding a long birdie putt at the 16th after the pair had bogeyed the previous hole.

Jimenez said afterwards: "We complemented [each other] very well today on the golf course.

"We played well. We enjoyed ourselves and that is very important."

Germany and Australia are currently tied for second place on 13 under par, while England carded a disappointing 74 in the foursomes and are tied for 19th on one under.
