South African golfer Tim Clark and Scott Hend of Australia both shot five-under-par 67s to share the lead on a weather-disrupted first day at the Australian Masters.
Play was delayed for nearly three hours on Thursday (November 27th) afternoon due to a lightning storm at Huntingdale Golf Club, with Hend completing his round just before the inhospitable conditions forced nearly 80 players off the course.
Clark was made to wait for the completion of his round, but later joined Hend at the top of the leaderboard thanks to eagles at the seventh and tenth holes.
"It''s always tough to go out and finish off a round after such a delay, but it worked out for me," he told the Associated Press afterwards.
After failing light stopped play at the Melbourne course, over 40 players will have to complete their first rounds on Friday morning due to the weather delay.
Englishman Daniel Wardrop is one of four players currently tied for third place on three under par.
