Steve Williams has claimed that Nike player Tiger Woods is actually more accurate off the tee than many golf commentators give him credit for.
The New Zealander has been Woods'' caddie for nine years and recently spoke to the Dominion Post about his experiences as the world number one''s right-hand man.
Williams said that, although official statistics rate his driving accuracy at just under 59 per cent, Woods and his caddie have "a different way of measuring things" on the golf course.
He explained that not hitting the fairway does not always constitute a bad shot for the 14-time Major winner, because he sometimes uses other methods to approach the green.
Williams said: "He might hit it in the greenside bunker, but it''s a great shot, or he might hit a great tee shot that doesn''t end up on the fairway and people think it''s a missed fairway."
The caddie is currently enjoying his first break from the job in 30 years, due to Woods'' lengthy injury layoff.
After undergoing knee ligament surgery this summer, the 32-year-old is expected to return for the 2009 Masters in April.
