Members of Langland Bay Golf Club are celebrating this week after a planning application which threatened its status as an 18-hole course was withdrawn.
Liberty Properties had intended to build 12 detached homes on land bordering the Swansea club, one of the oldest golf venues in Wales.
Staff at Langland feared it would be forced to lose its third hole if the building project was given the green light, but the developer withdrew its application just hours before planning officials were due to consider the plans.
Opposition to the development has been passionate, with councillors recently receiving a 243-signature petition urging them to reject the application.
Chairman Tony Vaughan said members of the 104-year-old club were "obviously delighted" that their course is set to remain intact.
"Without doubt it would have affected the playing of golf on our third hole," he added.
Situated on the Gower Peninsula the first designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in the UK the club is known for its picturesque views over the bays of Langland and Caswell.
