Garcia wins Shot of the Month

TaylorMade golfer Sergio Garcia has won the European Tour''s Shot of the Month award for October.

The Spaniard received the accolade for what the Tour''s website described as a "typically inventive stroke" during the final round of the Castello Masters at Club de Campo del Mediterraneo.

Playing on his home course, Garcia produced a brilliant second shot from a difficult lie at the seventh hole, setting up a two-putt birdie-four and extending his advantage on the leaderboard.

Garcia went on to win the tournament by three strokes from Sweden''s Peter Hedblom, clinching his first title on the European Tour since 2005.

Meanwhile, Steve Webster was awarded second place in the shot contest for a well-executed chip from thick rough during the final round of the Portugal Masters.

The Englishman finished joint-third in Vilamoura, four strokes behind winner Alvaro Quiros of Spain.

Next month, the Tour will reappraise the best shots of each month to decide the winner of its Shot of the Year award.

Recent recipients of the monthly award include Padraig Harrington, Martin Kaymer and Darren Clarke.
