Montgomerie targets return to the top

Yonex player Colin Montgomerie has committed himself to the European tour for at least the next seven years.

After a poor run of form, the Scot has expressed his determination to improve his game so that he can once again compete at the highest level - and hopefully break his major duck.

"I''m exempt through to 2015 on this (European) tour and I intend to be playing until that stage," he confirmed.

"I''ve got to get back inside the top 50 to compete on the world stage again."

After a run of ten tournaments without a top-20 finish, eight-times European Order of Merit winner and five-times major championship runner-up Montgomerie will be looking to arrest his slump at the Hong Kong Open.

Having won the tournament in 2005, Monty is familiar with the setting and believes the set-up suits his game.

As it is not a particularly long course, it favours the accurate rather than the powerful - with the former being one of Montgomerie''s strengths.

His last notable result, however, was a second-place finish in the French Open in June.ADNFCR-1571-ID-18886011-ADNFCR
