Jordan confirmed for Bethpage Black challenge

Basketball legend Michael Jordan has agreed to take part in the Golf Digest US Open Challenge at Bethpage Black next year.

According to the Associated Press, Jordan is set to join Justin Timberlake, one other celebrity golfer and a Golf Digest competition winner for the challenge, which will take place in the lead-up to the US Open next June.

Amateur golfers can win a place alongside Jordan and Timberlake by entering a competition at the Golf Digest website.

In just six words, they must explain why he or she will be able to break 100 at the notoriously unforgiving Long Island course.

Last year''s competition, which saw Nebraska amateur John Atkinson compete with Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo and host of the Today show Matt Lauer at Torrey Pines, received 56,374 entries.

Nike golfer Tiger Woods was the only player to break par at Bethpage Black in 2002, when he beat Callaway''s Phil Mickelson by three strokes to win the US Open and claim his eighth Major title.
