Japanese rookie Ryo Ishikawa has carded an opening round of 66 to lead the Taiheiyo Masters in Shizuoka.
The 17-year-old''s six-under-par score put him three strokes ahead of Nike golfer Trevor Immelman, who is also taking part in the Japan Golf Tour event.
Ishikawa, who won his first tournament as a professional earlier this year, dramatically sunk a 25-foot putt for eagle at the 11th hole of the Taiheiyo Club''s Gotemba Course.
Japanese player Yasuharu Imano, who sits in joint-second after a five-under first round, told Reuters that the youngster has "a little bit of an aura like Tiger Woods used to have as a junior".
Taking place in the shadow of Mount Fuji, the event sees Immelman searching for his first victory since winning the Masters in April.
The 28-year-old South African claimed the famous Green Jacket by finishing three strokes clear of Nike golfer Tiger Woods at Augusta.
