Garcia targeting Major victory

TaylorMade golfer Sergio Garcia has said that winning a Major title will be his main objective in 2009.

The 28-year-old Spaniard reached a career-best world ranking of number two this week following his HSBC Champions victory in Shanghai, with Callaway''s Phil Mickelson moving down to number three.

Looking forward to next season, Garcia said clinching his first Major is higher on the agenda than replacing Nike''s Tiger Woods at the top of the rankings.

He explained: "I have been trying for a while, but winning a Major is the next goal.

"I''ve never been this close to number one, so it''s just exciting to be there."

Garcia is the first European player to hold the number two spot since Yonex golfer Colin Montgomerie in 1996.

His victory at the HSBC Champions was his third win of the season, following his triumph at the Players Championship in May and last month''s success at the Castello Masters.
