Nike golfer Tiger Woods has commented on Barack Obama''s US election success for the first time.
The world number one surprised some news providers by failing to mention Obama''s landmark victory in a personal newsletter released last Wednesday, but has now broken his silence on the president-elect.
Speaking to reporters in North Carolina yesterday (November 10th), Woods said that the day Obama moves into the White House will be "one of the great days in America".
He told USA Today that the Democrat''s election would have pleased his father Earl Woods, who died in 2006.
"My father hoped he would see a man of colour elected president in his lifetime. He didn''t see it, but I hoped that I would see it," Woods commented.
Like George W Bush and Bill Clinton, Obama is known to enjoy the occasional round of golf and footage of the 47-year-old politician teeing off in Hawaii was recently uploaded onto YouTube.
