Titleist professional Zach Johnson carded a final round of 64 to clinch the Valero Texas Open title on Sunday.
The former Masters champion''s fourth round at La Cantera Golf Club, San Antonio saw him finish on 19 under and secure a two-shot victory.
South Korea''s Charlie Wi shot a stunning 61 on the last day to charge up the leaderboard, but his efforts were not enough to deny Johnson a first win of 2008 and he had to settle for sharing second place with Mark Wilson and Tim Wilkinson.
Afterwards Johnson attributed his success to a renewed focus on the fundamentals of his game.
"I made the commitment to go back to what I used to do, the way I''m supposed to do it and ball striking and putting … it certainly helped," he said.
Rory Sabbatini began the final round at the head of the field, but a two-over-par 72 saw him slip to eighth. |
