Peter Mitchell shot a final round of 68 to hold off the challenge of Ian Woosnam and win the Lake Garda Italian Seniors Open on Sunday.
The Englishman began the final round at the Palazzo Arzaga Hotel''s course as joint leader with Guillermo Encina, but saw the Chilean drop out of contention by recording a two-under-par 70.
Instead the main threat to Mitchell came from former Ryder Cup captain Woosnam and Gordon J Brand.
The Welshman carded 67 and Brand 68 to finish a stroke adrift of the winner, who pocketed a cheque for 30,000 (£23,000).
It was Mitchell''s third victory of the season and he told the European Tour''s official website it had been by far the most difficult.
"It''s great to win a third title but now I need a beer and a bit of a rest," he added.
Woosnam had the consolation of maintaining his lead at the head of the Seniors Tour Order of Merit with only one event - the OKI Masters Castellon Seniors Tour Championship at Club de Campo del Mediterraneo - left to play. |
