Golfing great Severiano Ballesteros has moved to allay fears about his health, despite spending a fourth day in a Madrid hospital.
The 51-year-old was taken to La Paz hospital after briefly losing consciousness during a dizzy spell on Monday and doctors have described him as being in a stable condition.
Ballesteros, a five-time Major winner and former European Ryder Cup captain, has now issued a statement via his personal website to thank fans for their messages of support and hospital staff for their help.
"I wish to inform that I am feeling very well," the Spaniard added. "I am awaiting the results of the tests that I have been going through."
The man known to golf fans across the world simply as Seve captured the public''s imagination in a manner few others in the sport have managed, thanks to a swashbuckling approach to the game that earned him the Open Championship in 1979, 1984 and 1988, as well as the Masters title in 1980 and 1983.
His career came to an end in 2007 when a persistent back injury forced him to retire, but his impact on the sport continues to be felt in the form of the Seve Trophy. |
