Nike golfer Tiger Woods has promised to return from his lengthy injury layoff a better player.
The world number one has been sidelined since undergoing surgery to reconstruct the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee following his US Open victory in June.
Woods does not expect to be back in action until 2009, but told Reuters that the break would give him time to iron out some flaws in his swing.
He said that the longstanding problems with his knee had previously prevented him making the necessary alterations to his swing and explained: "It will be nice to be able to hit against a solid left side for the first time in years."
The 14-time Major winner added that one thing which would definitely not change was his approach to golf, which will remain as attacking as ever.
Meanwhile, Philadelphia''s Aronimink Golf Club has emerged as the frontrunner to hold Woods'' tournament, the AT&T National, in 2010 and 2011.
A new venue is being sought for those two years because redesign work will be taking place at the event''s Congressional Club home ahead of the course staging the 2011 US Open. |
